Suspended from a single flared out cam and separated entirely from the rock, one wide-eyed opossum hangs on for dear life. With no rope in sight and panic setting in, he appears to be reconsidering every decision that brought him here. Cruxing Opossum playfully captures the fear, exposure, and absurdity that can accompany an ambitious climbing adventure. Beneath the humor is a familiar feeling: committing to something before realizing just how far outside your comfort zone you have wandered.

This piece is what started the whole Climbing Critters series. Cruxing Opossum was created out of a bored, wintery February day. I found myself dreaming of suffering on the rock rather than in the snow. And sure enough, my creative thoughts began to flow has my hand took over the pencil and paper.
